Partners for Youth Opportunity
Total So Far for Partners for Youth Opportunity: $740.00
What We Do
Partners for Youth Opportunity (PYO) is a unique model that successfully empowers Durham youth, helping them to achieve their educational and vocational potential. Students who qualify (they receive either free or reduced lunch, are first generation immigrants or have had family members incarcerated) enroll in PYO as early as 8th grade and many remain in the program through sophomore year of college. Students receive academic support, workforce development, financial literacy and savings, employment, community-based mentoring, service learning/cultural arts and leadership development. We work closely with students for years, providing year-round support. By the end of high school, students have extensive resumes that outline their achievements and also have gained a unique support system that for many is like a second family.
“I started volunteering with PYO in 2013. I was so moved by youth, staff and program that I offered to expand college preparation. This year, 18 seniors are going to college – the most rewarding volunteer work I have done!” – Amy Daubert, Board Member and volunteer
Donations of $100 – $199 will receive a PYO T-shirt.
Donations of $200 or more will receive a gift box (valued at about $50) from Lo & Behold Natural Body Care in Durham.
