What is INDY Week's Give!Guide?
It’s a publication, accompanied by a website, whose primary goal is to facilitate year-end giving to a cross-section of Triangle-area non-profit organizations. Give!Guide is inserted in all 35,000 copies of INDY Week, and functions much like a catalog. Donors can select one, two or multiple organizations and make a donation online in a single, easy transaction.
What are the Give!Guide's goals?
1) To encourage people age 18-35 to get involved in philanthropy.
2) To attract new donors and/or volunteers to these causes
3) To provide publicity and exposure for a variety of local non-profits
Why the focus on the 35-and-under age group?
One of the goals of the Give!Guide is to encourage people age 18-35 to get involved in philanthropy. If young people begin supporting non-profit organizations at a young age, even at smaller levels, they are likely to continue to give as they get older, and the amount of their support is likely to grow with their incomes.
Why should I give through the Give!Guide?
There are a number of special benefits both to you as a donor and for the organizations you donate to.
For example: Anyone who gives $20-249 will receive a punchcard loaded with freebies all over the Triangle. Donors giving $250-$1,000 receive a punchcard with even more goodies. $1,000+ donors receive a prize package that can be picked up from INDY Week’s Durham or Raleigh location or hand-delivered to their home/office by INDY staff.
What is the minimum donation?
The minimum donation per nonprofit is $5.
When do I have to complete my donation?
As soon as possible! The deadline for all donations is midnight, December 31st. Donating early will get you your thank you gifts sooner.
Are contributions tax deductible?
Yes. All participating organizations have 501(c) 3 status. Donors will receive an automatic, email receipt for each Give!Guide contribution. The organization(s) you donate to will send you an official tax deductible receipt in January.
How are donations tracked?
Donations made through the Give!Guide website are tracked by organization as soon as the Give!Guide transaction is made.
Can I have my donation matched if my company has corporate matching?
Yes, if your company has a corporate matching program. Please check with your company and follow their procedures.
Can I opt out of hearing (email, mail) from the organizations I donate to?
Yes! Simply check the appropriate box on the checkout page. The organizations receiving the donations will mail a tax deductible receipt, but have agreed not to send any further mail.
How are the nonprofit organizations selected to be in the Give!Guide?
Organizations are selected by a panel comprised of INDY Week staff and professionals in the nonprofit industry. All must have 501(c)3 status or status-pending, and must have a focus on the Triangle area. We try to include a range of organizations in the categories of Arts & Culture, Environment & Animals, Health & Wellness, Human Services & Social Action and Youth & Education. We also strive to include both large and small organizations, and to include organizations new to the Give!Guide each year.
How do I get an organization into the Give!Guide?
If you are interested in getting an organization into the Give!Guide, please send an email to email@example.com. Please include the name and email address of the organization’s development director. Space is limited, so this is not a guarantee of participation. The application process takes place in June and the nonprofits are selected in July.
What is the Steve Schewel award?
This program honors a Triangle resident 35 or under who does fabulous work for their local nonprofit. Winners must work at a local nonprofit, and make $35,000 a year or less. The award is intended to recognize and encourage long-term commitment to the non-profit sector and to inspire others to get involved. Winners are selected via an application and interview process by INDY Week employees.
Can I make a check donation?
Yes! If you choose not to make a credit card donation, we accept checks. You must complete this form and include it with your check made payable to: Indy Give!Guide.
Your mailing envelope must be postmarked no later than Dec. 31, 2016.
